Activision detailed its financial performance from the third quarter in 2018 and the whole year. However, this greater investment, it says, will be funded by "de-prioritizing initiatives that are not meeting expectations and reducing certain non-development and administrative-related costs across the business"--referring to the layoffs. The company's financial announcement COO Coddy Johnson revealed that there would be an eight percent reduction in headcounts at Activision Blizzard. With over 10.000 employees according to the company's last count that's nearly 800 employees losing their jobs. This has resulted in the shuttering of one King's studios and seen reductions to areas like esports, which were a key focus on projects such as that of the World of Warcraft League.


Co-CEO Bobby Kotick, said that while Activision Blizzard's "financial results in 2018 were among the top ever in our history" it "didn't fully realize our potential."
